Smoking Has Evolved.
So Should Your Filter.
Finally, a Filter that Filters.
Our filters are powered by activated charcoal derived from coconut shells—a highly absorbent natural material long valued for trapping toxins.
The Results: A cleaner, smoother drag with a clearer taste. A better smoking experience, grounded in nature and refined for quality.
Activated Charcoal

Things People Ask
Answers to common questions about Charco & our products.
What are Charco filters made for?
Charco filters are crafted for use with legal smoking herbs only. They are not for tobacco use and are intended for adult use only (21+).
Can I use a Charco filter more than once?
Some people reuse their filters if the roll is small, but performance is best with a fresh one. The filters are designed for single use — that’s when they deliver top performance.
Is Charco vegan-friendly?
Yes. Charco filters are made from 100% activated Charcoal derived from coconut shells, plus unbleached paper, and ceramic tips. No animal products are used.
Why Activated Charcoal from coconut shell instead of another source?
Sustainable by nature – a renewable resource that turns waste into value.
Does the activated Charcoal trap/reduce active cannabis particles?
Based on years of use and experience of using activated Charcoal filters for smoking cannabis, we have not observed any noticeable loss of active ingredients. Users generally report the same effect, just with a smoother and cleaner experience.
How should I dispose of used filters?
Once fully cooled, used filters can go in the normal household waste. The paper and Charcoal are plant-based, while the ceramic tips are inert.
How well does activated Charcoal filter?
Activated Charcoal has been widely studied and applied for filtration in many contexts, although little formal research exists yet for cannabis use. What users consistently report, however, is a smoother experience and a noticeable difference. For example, pipes and glassware tend to stay cleaner when activated Charcoal filters are used.
By the way, activated Charcoal has been used for its purifying properties as early as 3,500 years ago by the ancient Egyptians!
Why do I sometimes see black goo coming out of my joint?
It’s condensed cannabis resin — a natural byproduct of smoking — and it can happen with any joint, with or without any type of tip or filter.
The black or dark brown “goo” that occasionally appears at the mouth end of a joint isn’t coming from your Charco filter. It’s simply resin and tar droplets that form when cannabis smoke cools and condenses before reaching the charcoal. This effect is influenced mainly by:
- Cold Weather
In cold conditions, smoke temperature drops quickly.
Cooler smoke = faster condensation → more resin collects at the tip, often before it even reaches the filter.
This is why goo is most common when smoking outdoors in winter or at night.
- Rolling Too Tight
A very tight joint restricts airflow.
Less airflow = hotter burn + more pressure → more resin pushed toward the mouthpiece, where it collects and cools into goo.
- Weed That’s Extra Moist or Extra Resinous
Fresh, sticky, terp-heavy, or very moist flower naturally produces heavier vapor droplets, which condense easily.
This is a cannabis material issue, not a filter problem.
How to avoid?
- Roll looser around the filter; 2. if you smoke outside in the cold, use your hands and breath to warm the joint before lighting it; 3. Keep the ash down – This keeps moisture away and prevents the filter from clogging.
